Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

How do I choose between Bipolar and Everyday mode?

When you first launch Simple Moods, you'll be asked to choose your tracking mode:

You can change modes later in the app settings if needed.

How do I set up PIN protection?

Go to Settings → Security → Enable PIN Lock. Choose a 4-digit PIN that you'll remember. This adds an extra layer of security to protect your private mood data.

Is an internet connection required?

No! Simple Moods is fully offline and works without any internet connection. This ensures your data stays private and on your device only.

Using the App

How do I log a mood entry?

Tap the "+" button or the current day on the calendar. Select your mood on the scale, then optionally add:

Can I edit or delete past entries?

Yes! Tap on any day in the calendar view to view the entry. From there, you can edit any fields or delete the entire entry.

How do I view my mood history?

Use the calendar view to see a color-coded overview of your moods. Tap the graph icon to view detailed charts and trends over time.

What's the difference between Mixed and Manic? (Bipolar Mode)

Mixed episodes involve experiencing symptoms of both mania and depression simultaneously. If you're experiencing this, select "Mixed" at the top of the mood scale. "Manic" is for pure manic symptoms without depressive features.

Data Management

How do I backup my data?

Go to Settings → Data → Export Data. This creates a backup file you can save to your device, email to yourself, or store in your preferred cloud service. Since Simple Moods is offline-only, we don't provide automatic cloud backup.

How do I restore from a backup?

Go to Settings → Data → Import Data. Select your previously exported backup file to restore your mood history.

Can I transfer my data to a new device?

Yes! Export your data from your old device, then import it on your new device. Make sure to save the export file somewhere you can access from both devices (email, cloud storage, etc.).

What format is the exported data?

Data is exported as JSON format, which can be read by many applications.

Privacy & Security

Is my data really private?

Absolutely. Simple Moods doesn't have internet permissions and never sends your data anywhere. Everything stays on your device. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

I forgot my PIN. Can you reset it?

Unfortunately, because we have no access to your data or device, we cannot reset your PIN. However, you can uninstall and reinstall the app to start fresh (note: this will delete all your data unless you have a backup).

Is my data encrypted?

Yes! All mood data is encrypted at rest on your device using industry-standard encryption. The optional PIN adds an additional layer of app-level security.

Troubleshooting

The calendar view is showing wrong colors
